Signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, punishes offenses such as hacking, online fraud, identity theft, cybersex, child pornography, cybersquatting, libel, and other acts of Internet misconduct.
It is just so disappointing that the Philippine government, included libel laws to the Cybercrime Law. Why? Anyone who disagrees or finds offense with anything posted online - including for example - Facebook posts, comments or even private messages can sue invoking RA10175. No more opinions (that should neither be wrong or right) - no more freedom of expression.
We are not against the cybercrime law in general but it needs to be repealed or revised - it violates Filipinos' rights to free expression and it is wholly incompatible with the Philippine government’s obligations under international law.
In protest, starting October 3, 2012 when the law takes full effect, pinoywatching.blogspot.com will remove all of its posts until further notice.

ReplyDeleteoh kelan pa naging sagabal ang libel sa freedom of expression? oh eh bakit may libel law outside the internet, does that mean wala kayong freedom of expression? simple lang naman, read what libel is. it doesn't hinder expressing of opinions but protecting people from lies.

ReplyDeleteBakit revise lang? Dapat REPEAL! At anong problema niyo sa LIBEL? Ang problema niyo dapat ay kasali yung Cyber Sex. Ang mga nakapost dito, puro sangkot sa cyber sex kaya bawal yan sa Cybercrime Law.
ReplyDeleteIpaglaban niyo ang karapatan ng tao sa Cyber sex. Kasama yan sa Freedom of Expression. Huwag niyo na pakialaman ang Online Libel. Yung iba ang lalaban doon.! MAGBASA KAYO NG CONSTITUTION AT UNITED NATIONS PRINCIPLES!
